I can't even count the times my lovely client Natasha said that last week as we organized her office and home. It's often the most simple, tiny tweaks that make amazingly large improvements in our daily living patterns. Here are a few favorites:
1. Put scissors in several rooms such as Kitchen desk, office, bathroom, laundry room, garage. IT saves time and steps having a pair handy to snip a thread, open a package or trim something to fit. Label them so they have a fighting chance of getting returned to the proper place.
2. Add a clock to the bathroom wall. I can no longer survive without my wall clock in my dressing area. It helps me stay on time for my day.
3. Put a shredder where you open the mail, line with a trash bag for easier clean up and USE IT OFTEN!
4. Think about WHERE you use and item and what you use WITH things. Natasha "could have had a V-8!" when she realized how many steps back and forth across her kitchen she was making just for a cup of tea! Keep the roll of trash bags near the container not across the kitchen in the pantry, right?
5. Using dividers in drawers will not only organize but protect your space from "alien invaders" (aka "trash"). All too often I find that every drawer has become a "junk drawer". It's a matter of procrastination. You don't have a system and an assigned place for things and papers they all land in the drawers and eventually create frustration and hair pulling when you are wilding searching for something! Get some dividers and "name" the use of drawers to create some order in your home and office.
