SMARTcut(R) Solutions- When Things Go Awry Part 3 of 6

Posted on 24 May by debbye | No Comments

This one makes me think of the old Candid Camera jingle “when you least expect it….SMILE!….”

Bag ladyLet’s face it. It’s a matter of WHEN, not IF life will throw you some curves. We might as well expect that “stuff happens”. That’s the reason that when I travel I carry some essential toiletries, medications and possibly clean undies in my carry on bag. Oh! And I always have some extra snacks, “just in case!”

Expectation puts you in a better frame of mind when things go awry. Just after Desert Storm (where my hubby served) I was flying from Atlanta to New York. I found myself unEXPECTEDLY drenched in a full-sized can of tomato juice. The mortified flight attendant had spilled it all over my dress, down my legs and into my shoe and briefcase.

Now, I could have acted like my passenger neighbors EXPECTED and erupted into a fit. Instead, I calmly said, “My Army husband has a new philosophy. It’s a good day as long as nobody is shooting at me.” I got up and told her it was fine. My dress was red and washable and I sloshed off to the lavatory.

You see, I had expected to need to deal with some inconvenience while traveling. Not that I was a pessimist, but I was just programmed to handle whatever came my way that day in a calm way. After all, there are TONS of worse things that can happen on a flight now days.

So, my point is do what you can to be prepared and then be as relaxed as possible about the rest.

What can you do to foresee the future?

No more “FINDERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS!”

Posted on 19 Sep by debbye | No Comments

How many things can you think of that you have lost over the years? Have you ever left a jacket in the restaurant, neck pillow in the airport, or cell phone (who knows where!)? I surely have. Now add to that list things your kids have lost. Probably countless items at school, camp and around the neighborhood.

My hubby, the SMARTcutGEEk.com found a SMARTcut(TM) this a.m. It is a service that lets you print tags that will help the finder return your lost items. Even I thought it was very reasonably priced, so check it out if you and yours seem to come up missing things…

Time (saving) Traveler

Posted on 06 May by debbye | No Comments

I have just returned from yet another trip to Tucson, AZ. I have made 4 trips so far since September working with my mentoring group. All this travel makes me really glad I am “The Shortcut Expert” and have made travel so much on auto-pilot. Simply having most of my needs pre-packed is a HUGE Shortcut! I have duplicated almost everything that I need in the way of toiletries, hair dryer, curling iron, Rx, etc. so I can leave them packed and ready.

Another great help are the Eagle Creek container bags. I pack each one with my day’s outfit from undies to jewelry. Really a time saver! This is especially nice if the airport security has to riffle through your luggage too!

Eagle Creek Cube

Visit REI.com to see Eagle Creek Pack-It Cube (Reduced to: $8.99
Originally: $12.00). These are also available at Luggage Shops and The Container Store. I have about 5 or 6 of this size (for my outfits) and a few of the half cube size and one of the quarter cube (for my travel hair dryer).

So, whether you are a business traveler or a recreational traveler, give this a try. You’ll appreciate arriving at your destination WITH your toothbrush, your Rx and even your underwear. There’s nothing worse than forgetting to pack the undies!
