We might as well accept the fact that “stuff” will happen and our well-organized plans will fall into a black abyss. The positive side of this is that we get to recognize what we can do to minimize the damage. Many of life’s crises are not avoidable, but they are things we can get ready for.

So SMARTcut #2 is to Prepare

“Be Prepared.” It’s the scout motto (Boys’ and Girls’ actually). One thing that’s easy to do is prepare for unexpected. Whether it’s dinner guests or calls to serve “meals on wheels” to another family, you can be ready in advance.

Have you noticed that these situations seem to come on the least opportune days? It’s always when I’m paddling to keep things going. To relieve potential stress (and costs) I have created my emergency meal plans and stocked my pantry to be ready. Sometimes just knowing ahead what you’ll do will stop the anxiety.

So today’s blog post is to encourage you to get prepared for the kinds of things that happen repeatedly and throw you off track. Think of what you can do to prepare yourself for that detour, then make a cup of tea an get on with your life.

What’s the best thing you’ve done to be prepared?

Have FUN Turning Biz SLUMP into Biz PLUMP- Part 2

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

dot girls cardFun! This is one of my key criteria on my people search. I like to have fun and I want to be around people who do too. At one time in my business, I realized that I wouldn’t describe the majority of my clients as “fun”. They weren’t happy campers. I made a conscious effort to be more fun myself and to look for fun customers.

First, I checked my closet. Now I know this may seem strange, but I needed to get more FUN in my FASHION. Well, quite truthfully the FASHION was kinda missing too! I’d sunk into “mommy-ville” wearing safe, boring and outdated clothes.

I added some colorful and functional pieces to my wardrobe. I not only looked better, I FELT better too! If your resources are limited think of adding some fresh accessories. Oh! And don’t forget to check your shoes! Worn out shoes tell a tale of poor self image and lack of success.

Next, I added some FUN into my business. I used themes for my demonstrations and my promotions. Some were based on holidays, some on other events such as the Super Bowl or even popular TV shows.

What ways can you think of to bring some FUN into your business?

Construction

Who is your ideal client? During a “slump’ in my Direct Sales career my mentor, suggested that I construct my ideal business using a checklist of my key characteristics for my business contacts.

It was interesting to see how this list was a good fit for my client prospecting as well as my team building.

In fact, I think it may spill over into friendships to some degree as well. Now, some 15 years later, I STILL review that list to evaluate my connections.

You may have heard it said that you become like the people you surround yourself with. So why not choose them with positive intent?

Here’s my list of many years. It may not be just right for you, so as always, feel free to make your own version. Creating your positive mindset will reflect in your bottom line!

I started with “willing” because without out this, nothing moves forward. If it’s your child, she must be willing to potty train, tie her shoes, or ride a bike. Now, don’t for a minute suppose that mean to let the children rule the roost! Far from it. Just be aware that an element of cooperation at home will take you a long away.

In your business, you’ll also need willing prospects. Are the people you choose to network with willing to try your product, buy your product and even refer people to you? Are a reasonable percentage of the people you offer your business opportunity to, willing to at least listen? This is one area where setting your expectation for the people you want to attract will go far.
Have you thought of a characteristic that would benefit you?
