Organizing Magic- Step 1: Dream

Organizing Magic to Make Your Financial Fantasies Come True

As an ambitious, creative business owner you have what I’ll call “Financial Fantasies”. That’s not because you dream the impossible, but that you dream big. You posses qualities of unique brilliance that have significant value in the marketplace.

The challenge is that you are also a “BusinessMom” which, in my book, means that you are a nurturer. Weather it is to your children, extended family, as a community volunteer, or client coach…you nurture. This creates a physical and emotional tug of war. You may have heard this described as “seeking balance”.

Problem is that “balance” is illusive and downright impossible to maintain. The very word means equality, and let’s face it your family (nurturing) responsibilities and business demands are just not ever going to come out even on the balance sheet. Even if they could be equal, life’s realities just make it impossible to sustain…just like standing on your tippy toes can’t last long. Besides, you aren’t standing still. Life is moving on, and so are you!

A few years ago, as I struggled to “find balance” I realized these inequalities and discovered a new, and very achievable, goal. I call it “RHYTHM”. I loved the image of working in a smooth flow, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. My SMARTcutR systems gave me RHYTHM. With a plan and a path, I could manage life’s ups and downs more easily. I felt like a magic wand had touched my corner of the world and transformed me from drudgery into a dream life.

relaxing bathStep 1. DREAM- The Law of Attraction teaches that the first step to getting what you want is to visualize it as specifically as possible. Pause frequently to day dream about what you truly desire, in whatever area of your life that is currently chaotic. Make a goal poster or vision board full of pictures of your ideal reality. Write positive denials and affirmations. Be conscious of your self-talk. Keep it positive! Retreat from people who discourage you and limit your beliefs.

Is Email Marketing Being Replaced By Social Media?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

By Guest Blogger Jennifer Haubein-

EmailThe other day I got asked a great question “is email marketing being replaced by social media?” With lower open rates, more spam filters, and email boxes overflowing should we stop building our email list and focus on Social Media? Short answer: No!

But we do need to adjust our online marketing strategy a bit.

Your customers are tweeting, tagging photos in Facebook, watching YouTube videos, and hanging out on LinkedIn.

68 million users on Twitter now and Facebook’s users make up an entire country!

Social media is not a fad, so if you haven’t already it’s time to really step up your social media marketing.

But where does this leave email marketing?

Maybe your email open rates are dropping? Maybe the spam filters are stopping your emails?

Even if this is happening, right now email marketing is here to stay. But to be successful you should combine both email and social media.

For example, when I create a blog post, I tweet it, facebook it, put it on linkedin, and then guess what I do? I send an email about it.

I’ve seen a lot of people switching from their normal email newsletters over to links going to their blogs. I personally haven’t done this, because I hate the extra click for you as the user. But it’s certainly something to think about and test out.

Also, what about automatically emailing your blog as soon as your write a post or as an email digest every week? My favorite email autoresponder does this automatically for you.

Your customers enjoy hearing from you in different ways. Some are twitteraholics like me and others love getting your emails. So I’m going to continue building my email list, because if Twitter or Facebook ended tomorrow I’d be OK.

I really think the best idea is once you have your web site and online presence set up is to be everywhere! But if this is overwhelming for you right now. Just start first by building your email list and pick either Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or LinkedIn to help you.

I’m using Social Media to then build my list and adding value and content to both my email list and social media friends.

So email marketing is here to stay, but so is Social Media. So instead of picking one… just integrate them.

Time to Check Your Quarterly List

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

I am getting my life working with a smooth organizational rhythm, moving gracefully thru the inevitable ups and downs. Could your life use a little “rhythm”? Having a quarterly list and/or reminder in your planner (paper or electronic) can be a great way to eliminate stress and stay caught up on some important “Life Rhythms”.

This all started because I needed to remember when it was time to get a fresh mascara! Now you may not be aware (or even care) that mascara preventives only last 3 months, but I did. I wanted a way to remember when I should get a new one. Finally the idea to change on the quarterly business dates clicked for me.

I made a list of other things that needed to be done on a quarterly basis. Now I am organized with a way to remember to get them tended to with the right frequency. I use 15 June, 15 Sept, 15 Dec and 15 March because they are key dates for my business, but any dates spaced every 3 months will work. Choose the dates that are best for you, but I’m setting up reminders in my Tips.com to keep you on track effortlessly.

SMARTcut(TM) Tip: I use my computer calendar reminders. You could also use a colored “DOT” (highlighter or sticker) in your paper planner as a reminder to check your “TO DO” list.

Here are some items I put on my checklist to complete on a quarterly basis.

1. Buy a new mascara.

2. Change my car’s oil. For the longest time I wished there was an oil change business that sent me a reminder. Now I have just determined that on my quarterly dates I will keep this on my “To Do List”.

3. Get a new toothbrush. My dental hygienist told me I needed to replace my toothbrushes every 3 months. So I added one more little thing to my list. I keep a supply on hand so it is no trouble. It was just hard to keep track of! By the way, you also need to replace it a few days after beginning an antibiotic so you don’t re-infect yourself.

4. Change air filters. Finally I realized that I could also change the air filters on our heating and cooling systems on this same cycle.

5. If you make quarterly IRS payments add that to your list too!You may have other things around your home or office that will also work on this cycle.

I find this little technique very helpful to make it easier for me to keep track of these recurring tasks. Are you looking for more help for keeping up with life?

Clean out the Clutter

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Think About It…

“Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work.

A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine.

No more busy work. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow!”
