Organizing Magic- Step 6: SUPPORT

Posted on 21 Jan by debbye | No Comments

overwhelmOrganizing what I call “support” is essential for the BusinessMom. Just face it, life is full of surprises. Whether it is a plan gone into emergency status or an unexpected opportunity, my advice is to create back up plans, systems and support teams, that will carry you over life’s bumps.

As the scouts would say, “Be Prepared!” Look for people around you who could take some of the tasks off your list. These may be right under your nose….a family member, a neighbor, a kid from down the block or a stay at home mom looking for some very part time income.

Finding ways to delegate and outsource doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. You could get started brain storming this with a simple piece of paper. Draw a line down the middle.

On one side list everything YOU must do personally. On the other list the zillion other things that need doing- but don’t absolutely have to be done by you. Those are the ones to delegate or outsource. Remember, there doesn’t have to be just ONE person to do all these things. It can be an assortment of helpers.

Organizing Magic- Step 5: SIMPLIFY

Posted on 21 Jan by debbye | No Comments

paper help! The good news is that simple systems will function best. Great organization isn’t about having high tech, complex systems. In fact, the more basic the better.

Creative people are often very tactile. Although the electronic tools are helpful, don’t overlook good ole pencil and paper. You may feel more comfortable with a paper planner/calendar than a PDA. That’s fine.

It’s all about how your brain functions and accesses information. Be cautious about getting things too fancy or complex. Simple will get more done and done beats perfection every time!

Try creating some spread sheets to track or check progress. This is especially useful if you have work that follows a repeatable path. Example: Adding a new client or customer to your business, training a new team member, scheduling a guest speaker or interview.

Anything that can be 1,2,3 is an opportunity to simplify with a tracking sheet. Oh, and don’t overlook the simple checklist. This is especially useful for family members’ chores, school backpacks and sports equipment.

Organizing Magic- Step 4: RECYCLE

Posted on 20 Jan by debbye | No Comments

ideaEnvironmentalists want us to “recycle and re-use”, but why not use this concept for YOUR energy? So much of our daily routine is repetitive, watch for ways to repeat things you have already done.

You’ll love having more time every day. Look for things you do repeatedly such as paying bills, writing articles or newsletters, information that needs to go out often to new clients, associates or team members.

Make a form or template to cut down on the time and energy you spend week after week doing the same old things! This applies to your home AND to your office procedures.

Gather the supplies you need for a specific activity to avoid the “getting it together” phase of the job. Set up a cleaning caddy, or a manicure/body care basket, a bill paying box…you get the gist!

Can you re-purpose work you’ve done? Maybe the article you wrote for your blog could be submitted to article sites or turned into a free offer or bonus gift. Record (audio or video) the presentations you do. Have them transcribed for future use and/or archived on your website.

It’s all about working smart, not hard!

Organizing Magic- Step 2: CLEAR CLUTTER!

CLEAR- POOF! Make clutter vanish! When your space is full of clutter and your day is crammed, there is no room for abundance to enter in. Clutter breeds guilt, frustration and lost time. Invest in clearing out the 80% of “stuff” that’s clogging your money pipeline and constipating your life.

This goes for all the “to do” activities that are meaningless time-suckers, too. Take a serious look at what is not helping to create your financial fantasies and let it go.

Practice a “nice” way to say “no” to all those people who don’t understand that working at home, still is work. I love, “Thanks for thinking of me, but I’m busy working then.”

Organizing Magic- Step 1: Dream

Organizing Magic to Make Your Financial Fantasies Come True

As an ambitious, creative business owner you have what I’ll call “Financial Fantasies”. That’s not because you dream the impossible, but that you dream big. You posses qualities of unique brilliance that have significant value in the marketplace.

The challenge is that you are also a “BusinessMom” which, in my book, means that you are a nurturer. Weather it is to your children, extended family, as a community volunteer, or client coach…you nurture. This creates a physical and emotional tug of war. You may have heard this described as “seeking balance”.

Problem is that “balance” is illusive and downright impossible to maintain. The very word means equality, and let’s face it your family (nurturing) responsibilities and business demands are just not ever going to come out even on the balance sheet. Even if they could be equal, life’s realities just make it impossible to sustain…just like standing on your tippy toes can’t last long. Besides, you aren’t standing still. Life is moving on, and so are you!

A few years ago, as I struggled to “find balance” I realized these inequalities and discovered a new, and very achievable, goal. I call it “RHYTHM”. I loved the image of working in a smooth flow, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. My SMARTcutR systems gave me RHYTHM. With a plan and a path, I could manage life’s ups and downs more easily. I felt like a magic wand had touched my corner of the world and transformed me from drudgery into a dream life.

relaxing bathStep 1. DREAM- The Law of Attraction teaches that the first step to getting what you want is to visualize it as specifically as possible. Pause frequently to day dream about what you truly desire, in whatever area of your life that is currently chaotic. Make a goal poster or vision board full of pictures of your ideal reality. Write positive denials and affirmations. Be conscious of your self-talk. Keep it positive! Retreat from people who discourage you and limit your beliefs.
